It’s Our Cookbook Birthday!

March 11, 2015

It’s fair to say that the past year at Three Sisters Bake has been CRAZY!!! Buying and fixing up a food truck; the arrival of Baby Bake 3, Harris; appearing on This Morning (and meeting Silver Fox, Pip Schofield!); launching our Summer pop up Ice Cream cafe at Finlaystone Estate; taking our Food Truck on a tour of Scotland culminating in a two week stint at the Commomwealth Games (a definite highlight of not only 2014 but also our entire lives!!) and, of course, launching our new cafe and wedding venue space at Killearn. PHEWWWWWWW. Our New Year’s resolution for 2015 was to make sure this year wasn’t quite so crazy and action packed (we have some major sleep to catch up on!). As a result, it is virtually impossible to believe that we have already arrived at the anniversary of our cookbook launch! Seriously, where has the past year gone??

Three Sisters Bake: Delectable Recipes for Everyday was published by Hardie Grant exactly a year ago, just in time for Mother’s Day, so it’s a very memorable anniversary! This time last year, we were in the middle of painting chairs in the run up to the launch of our pop up Ice Cream cafe launch at Finlaystone when we realised it was time to throw on our glad rags and dash to Waterstones on Sauchiehall Street where the launch was taking place. It sounds hard to believe, (not to mention ungrateful), to say that we were dreading the launch a tiny bit…We all felt rather daunted at the idea of having to get up and introduce our book on stage, nervous as it was the first time anyone other than us had seen the book and terrified no one would show up to the launch! Excitement didn’t really enter into the equation at all.

However, as soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a large display of our cookbooks right beside the front door and excitement/ hysteria soon took over! Seeing the book which we had spent months writing and planning on display in the middle of our FAVOURITE bookshop in Glasgow was enough to blow away our nerves and apprehension, we were so happy that suddenly it didn’t seem to matter if no one showed up! As we made our way upstairs, the excitement levels exploded as we were faced with a CROWD of friends, family, cafe customers, Three Sisters Bake team members, journalists and bloggers. It was truly an unbelievable turn out.

We had also been so busy/ stressed in the run up to the launch that we hadn’t given the catering the hands on attention we would have liked (too busy catering for other people’s events to worry about our own!). So we were gobsmacked by the amazingly gorgeous display of canap├ęs; sweet treats and tarts which had been put together by our head chef, Pete and our baking star, Pennie! We could have cried with happiness (and I think maybe did), we had a feast fit for the amazing crowd who had turned up after all!

We were on such a high that even the public speaking was great fun!

The rest of the evening was a lovely blur of chatting to friends and family, prosecco drinking, being interviewed by the journalists and bloggers who had come along, signing books and chasing the Baby Bakes who were both still crawling/ staggering unsteadily. One of the absolute highlights was the fact that our 90 year old Granny, Lillian (whose cooking and baking skills are definitely responsible for Three Sisters Bake!) made the journey from Kirriemuir in Angus in order to be there. A delightfully happy event which we will never forget!

If anyone is tempted by one of our cookbooks (the perfect Mother’s Day gift!), they are available to buy from our cafes at Killearn and Quarriers Village, in all good bookshops (including Waterstone’s in Braehead and Glasgow) and online from Amazon.

Check out this blog post for a peak behind the scenes of our bookshoot (an exhausting but amazing experience!)
